The college football season starts in 2 days with a unusually weak opening Thursday. Saturday puts the season in full gear with blockbuster games featuring LSU vs Oregon and Boise St. vs. Georgia. In this episode, Brad and I make our week 1 picks against the spread from each conference. We also look for the potential big week 1 upsets. Finally, we break down this weekend’s tv schedule, so you know what games to watch and when.

68 & 16 College Sportscast: College Football Preview Part 1 Edition (Aug. 24)
Brad and I welcome Tripp back as we preview the upcoming 2011 college football season. As other college sports shows focus on Miami and Texas A&M, we know that there is actual football only a week away. In part one, we preview the small conferences, Big East, and ACC. Join us later for part two, where we preview the Pac 12, Big 10, Big 12, znd SEC.
We’ll start with the worst conference and work our way up from there. The Sun Belt will once again be the worst of all FBS conferences, but it won’t be for much longer. After Fresno, Nevada, and Hawaii depart from the WAC next fall, then the Western Athletic Conference will undoubtedly assume the role of FBS doormat. Meanwhile, the Sun Belt keeps getting better and better. I think the top two teams in the conference could compete for the conference crown in several other non-BCS conferences and the bottom of the conference is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. There are no longer any Sun Belt bottom-dwellers that have no business playing Division 1-A football, as I expect everyone in the league to win at least a couple of games this season. Here is my predicted order of finish for the conference. My predicted conference champ is listed in all caps and the teams that I believe will become bowl eligible are underlined.
Brad's 2011 College Football Preview Guide- Introduction
Over the next several weeks, I will post my 5th annual college football preview guide on this blog for your enjoyment. If you have read my blog before, you know that I am an avid college football fan who posts weekly blog entries about my insights and analysis throughout the season. I also write a weekly picks of the week entry as well as one for upsets to watch out for. Furthermore, I am the coordinator for the new College Football Researchers Association poll, which was re-started two years ago after a lengthy hiatus.
Let me start out by explaining the different entries that will be published for this guide. First of all, there will be an entry for each conference which gives the predictive ranks for all the teams as well as a brief written analysis for each. I will also post entries for my predicted surprise teams, predicted disappointment teams, a full ranking of all 120 teams, and predicted bowl matchups.
